Why Recycle Food Waste

We see food waste as a resource that should be harnessed to take advantage of the embedded energy and nutrients that it contains. The AD process that we operate converts the food waste into energy, heat and a biofertiliser. When compared to more traditional ways of disposing food waste, such as landfill, AD has a number of benefits –

We can provide commercially attractive rates when compared to landfill. The cost of disposing at landfill sites has increased significantly in the last few years whereas disposal rates are becoming increasingly competitive in the AD market place.

By processing 1 tonne of food waste through an AD plant it will reduce approximately 1.1 tonne of CO2 entering the atmosphere when compared to landfill. In addition, the methane produced as the waste rots inside landfills is 21 times more damaging to the environment than carbon dioxide (CO2).

Closed loop recycling

The biofertiliser we produce is applied back to land to improve crop yields, so the nutrients are recycled back into the food supply chain.
